Do you feel tired all the time, do you find yourself falling asleep in the middle of the day or do you take medication for high blood pressure? If so you maybe suffering from undiagnosed sleep apnea.
I have always enjoyed spending time with my family and friends, but for several years I barely had the energy to carry on a conversation. I found myself so tired all the time, feeling like the world was moving at a faster pace than I was and I could not keep up. This was awkward to say the least and therefore I no longer wanted to be around other people.
I felt very alone. Work was going very badly, it was difficult to concentrate on what needed to be done. No matter how much coffee that was consumed, sleepiness was always a problem of mine. Staying awake during meetings and phone calls became a serious problem. New worries of losing out on a promotion or maybe even my actual job surfaced.
My loud snoring was also affecting my marriage. It was not just snoring that was the problem, my wife said I would frequently choke and gasp for air during the night. She was very afraid my breathing would stop. At the same time she was really upset that all the commotion being caused made it difficult for her to get any sleep. It got to the point where she did not want to share the bed with me.
At this moment, something had to be done or else my marriage would be over. I really did not know what was happening so I spoke to my primary care doctor and he referred me to a doctor specialized in sleep medication. He diagnosed me with sleep apnea.
Many who regularly snore don't realize that it could be bad for their health. The research linking hypertension, cardiac problems and loud snoring is relatively new.
